The final push...for this year

It was official report card week for the first 12 weeks of homeschooling and they girls did awesome. In short, the way things work is I grade them and then send them in to ABeka/Pensacola Christian College. They look over what was sent in and grant the official grades (They have the option of changing the grade when they see fit). We are so very proud of how well they have both done. ABeka is a challenging curriculum and adjusting to homeschooling can be a challenge of its own, but both girls are doing great. Penmanship is the biggest challenge for them both, but that seems to be a very common thing with ABeka as their standards are very high.

Maddie has finished her science curriculum for the year and now she is off and running in history. Science is her favorite subject, so we'll still be doing lots of really cool experiments there even if is isn't officially "school" as Boutte Academy's motto is "learning is life". Megan has finished her letters and blends and is now off and running in reading and writing words. She could do it before some, but has much more confidence now. Both girls are continuing to meet friends as we venture into the world through the homeschool groups, church, and other activities. The loneliness is still there a bit, but lessening each time we venture out. There are still many more activities available than our schedules allow unless we give up sleep, so we are able to pick the best ones for our current stage in life and enjoy them.

We have 12 more school days to complete before we are at the half-way point including a field trip to a plantation. When we pick back up in 2011, we'll be adding some creative writing fun to our weeks which should be a really fun project to do. It really is hard to believe that we are half-way, but in some ways, it seems like we've been doing this for years. Many things are just second nature that I would have never thought would be. There are other areas that are more challenging that we thought they would be, but all in all, we couldn't be happier with our new homeschooling life. All the important things are getting done and the things that aren't so important aren't. We are finding that more times than not, things just aren't that important and are really focusing on the learning aspects of the things that are. Amazing how mundane chores become exciting again when you look at them from another perspective.
