This week even brought a little extra surprise. Lots of sleet. It looks prettier than it is. It was cold, icy, and windy. ICKKK!!! At least we didn't have wanting to be outside as a distraction from our school work!
By God's grace, Matt was still able to come in last weekend. The mess pictured above was supposed to be done and melted before his flight came in, but alas, it never got above freezing that day and the sleeting lasted for about 4 more hours than forecast so we white-knuckled it to the airport. Not fun, but the prize of having him home was worth it. The flights before and after his were cancelled, so we were really blessed that his came in just a few minutes late.
As if that storm wasn't enough, just a mere four days later, another ice storm came in. This one was colder, but not as much precipitation here. Other areas got snow, but just a little sleet in Lafayette. The notable thing on this storm was the 12 degree windchill that lasted all day. It was crazy!!! Ice everywhere. We hibernated for days while it cleared up. So crazy to be in the south and have a colder than normal winter anyway and then have two "storms of the decade" within just a few days of each other. I think I heard on the news that there have been 7 hard freezes and they are expecting 2 more before the end of the winter. Crazy!!!
Anyway, this past week had a bit more drama than the last, but we are working through it. Tough to keep all of the balls in the air after Daddy leaves, but we know at some point that will end and we can be together again for good. AND we are NEVER doing this again. Our upcoming week is a ton of errands and inspections so I'm sure this week will have drama as well. We are just hoping that all gets scheduled and goes well so we can be waiting on "THE NUMBER" that will tell us if we can move in March or if we need to buckle our seat belts for a longer duration. PRAYING HARD that "THE NUMBER" works for us. We are all done with this.
Today's highlight was Maddie leading a group of friends who volunteered to help through some "classes" and games about horses for Maddie's 4-H book. Maddie completed the 3 year book in only one year and even did some extra activities. She did fabulous and I think learned a lot about teaching and leading. I am so very proud of her and so grateful and thankful for her 4-H buddies that supported her. We had a great time working together and then eating together.
